The name eclipse was chosen to represent the manner in which light plays off glass to create dimension, colour and texture unlike any other artistic medium. Similar to a lunar eclipse, changes in lighting create a dramatically different look in many glass paintings.

The 'iced glass' technique was learned in a course by Rick Silas on Vancouver Island. This technique allows plain glass to be transformed into a beautiful, unique piece of art. Iced glass treatments can also be applied to glass windows or deck panels to allow maximum privacy while still allowing light to come through. The treatment can be applied to glass while in place, which saves the cost and waste of replacing windows.
